Explore the largest lake in Balkan Peninsula! Lake Skadar is wildlife hot spot, swamp of international significance and one of the largest bird reserves in Europe. Lake is home to more than 270 species of birds, among them pelicans which became the symbol of the lake, but also seagulls, herons and other. Where you find birds, you also find fish. Lake Skadar is abundant in fish, especially carp, bleak and eel. It is also rich in culture as it has been inhabited for centuries as depicted by the stone ruins all around it!
The tour begins when you are picked up from your accommodation and we drive towards Lake Skadar.
We arrive at Virpazar and do a short walking tour around this small and charming fishing town.
*Optional – you can visit the old Besac fortress situated at the hill above the town from where you can enjoy the beautiful panoramic view of Lake Skadar, or you can enjoy coffee or drink at the surrounding coffee and bars, take a stroll around the area, and take photos for memories.
We start the boat ride. You will enjoy the most beautiful scenery and learn about Lake Skadar’s value as the great natural and cultural resort of Montenegro. If we are lucky we will enjoy the bird watching of some rare species that are common to the lake, or even take a swim if the weather conditions allow. For refreshments, our host on the boat will serve us with delicious homemade donuts and drinks (wine, rakija-brandy and juices). After the ride, we head back to Virpazar.
We will continue our car ride across the Lake Skadar National Park, driving by old villages, looking at the interesting architecture of the old stone houses and enjoy amazing sceneries.
Arrival at Rijeka Crnojevica, we will take a short break at this old fishing town. This town is famed in Montenegrin history as one of the medieval capitals and important places and known today as one of the most favorite holiday places of Montenegrin people, but also higher and higher number of tourist that enjoy nature and rural tourism.
You will now be driven to the Pavlova side for a photo break – one of the most famous viewpoints at Lake Skadar and in whole of Montenegro, also listed in well-read travel and destinations magazines as one of the most spectacular views of the world.
We start a journey back to your accommodation.
